Advent Series: Hope
Hope Is An Anchor
When God made his promise, He gave his word. He did this so we would have good reason not to give up. Instead, we have run to take hold of the hope set before us. This hope is set before us in God’s promise. So God made His promise and gave His word. These two things can’t change. He couldn’t lie about them. Our hope is certain. It is something for the soul to hold on to. It is strong and secure. It goes all the way into the Most Holy Room behind the curtain. Hebrews 6:18,19
Hope is an anchor on which to depend, Firm and secure in God's Word. There've been waves of trials, temptations, But His promises have endured. Like Abraham's countless descendants, And the rainbow after the flood, Yet the greatest of all God's promises Is Christ's redeeming blood. Though Satan may toss my boat around, Sending waves to knock me down, My anchor of hope, the foundation of Christ, Is firmly fixed on Holy Ground.
God’s promises are found throughout the Bible in both the Old and New Testaments. His promises give us hope for the future. One promise in particular was the coming of the Messiah. (Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel.) Although He came in a most unexpected way, it changed the course of the world forever. Babies are synonymous with hope. New life is full of promise of a new beginning. In the case of Jesus, His birth represented a new life for all who would come to believe in Him. His whole life pointed toward a living hope in God. This year has been difficult for many as we’ve had to adjust to unexpected changes. We can put our hope in Jesus to see us through difficult times, because our anchor is founded in Him. He came to give us life, a rich and satisfying life! (John 10:10 I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.) Our hope is not based on earthly things, but on the gift of eternal life. Rejoice in the hope of Jesus this Christmas!
Lord, thank you for Your promises. When our life seems to be spinning out of control, we know we can put our hope in You to sustain us. I pray that we remain anchored in Your Word in good times and trials. You are our Living Hope! Amen
