Connecting With God

God Almighty

I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. Revelation 1:8

Alpha and Omega
That is the Lord Almighty;
Always was, always is,
And always He will be.

Isn't it assuring
To know God is that way?
Never changing, a steady Rock,
Forever and a day.

One on whom we can depend,
Our Shelter in time of need;
He's faithful to His promises,
So from worry we are freed.

We hold You up in reverent awe,
Almighty God, our Lord!
“Holy, holy, holy art Thee!”
We shout in one accord.

God Almighty. It’s a common phrase to describe God. Did you know that the word almighty occurs in the Bible 57 times? Sometimes it’s how God addresses Himself. (When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. Genesis 17:1) Sometimes it’s a believer calling on God in time of need. (David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. I Samuel 17:45) Sometimes it’s spoken in prayer and worship. (Who is like You, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and Your faithfulness surrounds You. Psalm 89:8)

|Almighty: adjective/ having complete power; omnipotent| I love that God identifies Himself as almighty. I want a God who has complete power; it means all things are possible with Him! (And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26) The mighty miracles in the Bible are hard to explain any other way. It’s what builds our faith. We know He hears our prayers and will answer them. I know He may not answer them the way I expect, but I trust He has my best interest in mind. Even when I get a “no” or a “not yet” I can see in hindsight His answer far surpassed my request. (Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more that we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20)

I find it assuring that God is infinite. (“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8) He’s been there even before the beginning-He started it all. He is in the present-He’s with us now. He is to come-He’ll return to earth. He’s the Alpha. He was there when our earthly life began. (For You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13) He was there at our spiritual rebirth. (In Him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in Him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1:13) He is there every morning for us. (Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14) He is the Omega. When we surrender daily to Him, God puts an end to earthly desires helping us to overcome temptation. (Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7) When our time on earth ends, He is our “happily-ever-after.” (Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26) Only an almighty God can fulfill all this!

Lord, as I bow before You, I am in awe of Your mightiness. No words could express the gratitude for all You’ve done for me and in me. Great are You Lord and worthy are You of all praise! Amen!
