Work of Art
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful; I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
God took a very tiny seed,
Blessed it and created me.
I'm like a poem He's written out,
Reflecting Him within and out.
I've been sculpted by His hand;
Before Him humbly I will stand.
I am a song within His heart;
I sing to Him at each day's start.
I am God's work of art, you see,
When from a seed He created me!
I recently became a grandmother for the 4th time with the birth of our 2nd granddaughter. Each grandchild is a miracle to behold, and she captured my heart the minute I held her. So many hopes and dreams for her flooded my mind as I thanked God for this precious life. Will she be outgoing or more reserved? Will she be a traveler or homebody? What will her interests be? The list goes on. One thing I do know is that God will be with her, guiding her along the way. (“This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.’” Isaiah 48:17)
God created her for a specific purpose, just has He has created all of us with a combination of gifts and talents unique to each individual. These are creative powers that God gave in order to bring Him glory and bring others to Christ. (Bring forth everyone who is called by My name, whom I created for My glory, whom I formed and made. Isaiah 43:7) We are created to be walking and talking billboards of who God is.
The best way to display who God is is to be completely and fully and freely ourselves. Expressing ourselves through our gifts and talents honors God and strengthens our relationship with Him. (Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Romans 12:6-8) Don’t be shy about using these gifts. God doesn’t want us to hide these talents. Although I’ve been writing poems nearly all my life, when I became a Christian they became more spiritual and a way of communicating with God. But, it took me many more years before I had the courage to share them with anyone. I had very little confidence and told myself these poems aren’t good enough to share. Nobody would want to read them. But I felt God prodding me to share them. So I started out small, sharing them with my students and a few close friends. Through encouragement from the parents of these students and my friends, I began to share more. It eventually led to starting this blog. I found a new purpose throught this blog to honor God and bless anyone who reads it.
Each of us is a work of art. (For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10) When I look at artwork, I analyze it. What is the purpose the artist had in mind when they created it? What is this piece saying to me? When we share our gifts and talents, God is speaking to others through them. If your gift is hospitality, you make people feel welcome. If your gift is leadership, you inspire and guide others. If your gift is music, singing in the choir or praise band uplifts the congregation in worshipping God. These are just a few examples of how our gifts and talents have a positive impact on others. I encourage you to start or continue to share your gifts and talents with the world and honoring God through them!
Dear Lord, thank you for creating in each of us gifts and talents to bless others. Help me to use them to honor You and to guide others to You through them. Amen
