God's Calling

Facing Your Fears

By Kate Luchtel
In His grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. Romans 12:6
God gave each person gifts and talents
For each one to use,
To bless those around them,
If they so choose.

God never forces anyone
To share their bestowed talents,
Though it's His desire they
Pursue these God-given bents.

Fear is often a deterrent,
And doubts flood the mind,
Uncertainty, imperfections-
These are ties that bind.

Yet the Bible is full of people,
Imperfect all,
Who despite the uncertainty,
Answered God's call.

So step out of your comfort zone,
It is how you'll grow;
Face the fears of the unknown,
Ready, Set, Go!

Prose and Prayer

I’ve always been drawn to poetry. My love for it was nurtured by my grandmother and my second grade teacher. Both of them enjoyed reading and writing poetry and instilled that passion in me. As a child, the majority of my poems were silly little ditties or limericks, with occasional haikus. As I matured, my poems became more introspective. But, my poetry became more personal when I became a born-again Christian. I discovered that poetry was one way God spoke to me. However, it took many years before I began to share them with anyone. As a Christian teacher, I began to share some with my class and at teacher devotions. As I became more confident, I began to share them at a Christian camp I attended every summer. Now, many years later, I’ve been encouraged by friends and colleagues to share my poems in a wider realm. My pastor suggested a blog, which was way out of my comfort zone! But through much prayer, and the corresponding poem, here I am-a blogger! I pray that God uses my poems to speak to you as I share this gift He’s blessed me with.

Lord, thank You for this opportunity to reach out to people and share Your Word through poetry. I pray that You would bless each reader through these words and encourage them to face their own fears as You call them to step out of their comfort zones. Amen
