Christmas

The Gift of Jesus

For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Unwrap the gift of Jesus,
Isaiah prophesied about.
Find out who He really is
See what His Word draws out.

Wonderful Counselor,
A Leader to us all,
Guiding our paths before us
Lest we trip and fall.

Mighty God, our Rescuer,
A bona fide hero who
Provides safe haven in our trials,
And comforts when we’re weary, too.

Everlasting Father,
We know we’re never alone.
Though others may forsake us,
He’s our Cornerstone.

Jesus is our Prince of Peace,
Amidst the chaos around,
He calms our storms from deep within,
In Him great peace is found.

As you approach the manger,
And envision the swaddled newborn,
Unwrap the gifts in Jesus,
Embracing them for your own.

The Promises of Who Jesus Will Be Reveal Why Christmas Matters to Me

Wonderful Counselor reminds us that Jesus wants to guide us not just at Christmas, but throughout the entire year. We can trust Him to lead us in the right direction. (In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:6) Because Jesus knows everything about us, He knows what is best for us.

Mighty God in Hebrew means “The Rescuer.” Jesus is the ultimate hero! We can run to Him for comfort and safety. (In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8) There are nights where my mind is caught up in anxious thoughts. But when I pray for Him to calm my spirit and quiet my mind so I can sleep, I’m usually out within 5 minutes! He gives us a shoulder to cry on and a sword to rely on. (Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. Psalm 55:22) Somehow, God gets us through those rough days. He sees our burdens, hears our cries, and carries us through. (You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4) Jesus will fight the battles for us. It doesn’t mean we won’t face battles, but He leads us through them, giving us wisdom and discernment every step of the way.

Everlasting Father reveals that we are never alone. (This is My command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9) No matter what we have done or what we are going through, He will never leave us nor forsake us! (Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8) Unlike people who come and go in our lives, Jesus is steadfast. We can rely on Him to be with us forever.

Prince of Peace gives us assurance that despite what may be going on around us, we have inner peace that comes from Him. (Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer andpetition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7) When we put our trust in Jesus, He replaces our worries and fears with peace and protects our minds from spiraling.

These promises that Isaiah prophesied all came true in Jesus. He fulfilled them all. It’s what makes Christmas so meaningful. God made a tangible connection with us through His Son. Emmanuel, God with us. God came down from Heaven as a baby to experience life with us. He was an example throughout His life of how to live in any circumstance. Because of these gifts in Jesus, we have joy, comfort, hope, and peace that strengthens our faith. May we spread the good news of Jesus not just at Christmas, but throughout the coming year!

Father God, thank you for the gift of Jesus. Through Him, we have an advocate. Through Him, we have a peace that passes all understanding. Through Him, we have life everlasting. My heart is full of gratitude for that first Christmas night long ago. May I spread the news of Jesus in all that I say and do throughout this season and the coming year, too. Amen
